Borders Rose Veal

Borders Rose Veal is reared at New Heaton Holsteins by Bob & Susie Douglas and their team.

Holstein Bull calves, a by-product of their 150 head Pedigree Holstein Dairy herd; are reared with high welfare standards, with access to light, water, fresh solid feed, with the ability to stretch, move and exercise to around 6 months of age.

The New Heaton herd was founded in the 1930's by current owner Bob Douglas' grandfather, Robert Douglas. Robert Douglas came from Southdean in Roxburghshire, the youngest of ten, he moved and bought Ashington Farm, near Morpeth.

Initially the farm had Ayrshire cows, some of which were shown with great success including winning a Reserve Championship at the London Dairy Show. In 1992 the herd was moved back to the Borders, to its present place at New Heaton.

The farm covers 260 acres, all of which are grass covered. The calves and cows housed in comfortable spacious surroundings with deep straw bedding in open sided barns.

The calves are then passed to Shaws Fine Meats for processing and sale. All of our stock is slaughtered at our abattoir in nearby Galashiels, ensuring food miles are kept to an absolute minimum.

All products are butchered with the upmost care, ensuring a highly sought after, premium product.
